EASTERN REGIONAL FISHERIES BOARD AND COILLTE CELEBRATE NATIONAL HERITAGE WEEK WITH FAMILY DAY OUT IN CAVAN

The Eastern Regional Fisheries Board in conjunction with Coillte are planning a fun day out in Dun a Ri Forest Park, Kingscourt, Co. Cavan this Sunday, 3rd September from 3pm-5pm. The ‘Biodiversity of the Forest Park’ day will consist of a guided nature walk organised by Coillte and an informative guided tour of an Irish Salmon stream organised by the Eastern Regional Fisheries Board.

Visitors can expect to learn a great deal from both tours including Ireland’s variety of tree species, woodland wildlife, how juvenile salmon and trout are reared and hatched and the variety of insects that thrive in streams that contribute to the lifecycle of what is now one of Ireland’s most precious fish species, the salmon. Learn all about the perilous journey the salmon makes from its feeding grounds in Greenland and the Faro Islands to their river or stream birthplace to spawn before returning to sea. The stream that will be used as a case study on the day is a tributary of the River Glyde catchment which joins the sea with its sister catchment at Annagassan, Co Louth.

So come along and enjoy a great family day out!
