The Eastern Regional Fisheries Board was established under the 1980 Fisheries Act along with the six other Regional Boards and the Central Fisheries Board.
The Policy Objectives of the Eastern Regional Fisheries Board
are as follows:
(a) To manage and develop inland fisheries to their full potential so as to
ensure their exploitation in a rational manner so as to produce the best return
of the economy in terms of net output and employment.
(b) To ensure the conservation and protection of fish stocks and their environments.
(c) To optimise the amenity, recreational and environmental value of the resource.
The area covered by the Eastern Regional Fisheries Board extends the full length of the east coast from Carlingford Lough in County Louth to Killen Point just east of Bannow Bay, Co. Wexford. The inland extent of of the region follows the river catchments to places such as Emyvale and Scotstown Co. Monaghan, Virginia and Bailieboro in Co. Cavan and Tyrrellspass Co. Westmeath.
