The River Glyde
2010: CLOSED TO ANGLING FOR ALL SALMON AND FOR SEA TROUT OVER 40CM AND OPEN TO ANGLING FOR SEA TROUT UNDER 40CM
The River Glyde owes its origins to a series of smaller tributaries, which rise in Counties Cavan and Monaghan. These include the Tubermannin and the Killany Rivers, which contain stocks of brown trout. The upper reaches of the Glyde are known as the Lagan River which is deep and slow flowing. The Lagan and Kilanny River meet at Tully Co. Louth and form the River Glyde. The Glyde flows in a S.E. direction for 35 miles approximately before entering the Irish Sea at the picturesque seaside village of Annagassan, Co. Louth.
The Glyde and its tributaries hold good stocks of brown trout. The main Glyde also produces good salmon fishing from Castlebellingham downstream to the Lynns weir although fish can be found in pools throughout the system. Riparian owners and a number of angling associations, some of which have day permits available, control fishing.
Location: Co. Louth, Co. Cavan. The main towns and villages are Annagassan, Castlebellingham, Tallanstown and Carrickmacross.
Season: Salmon and sea trout Feb 12th to September
30th. Brown trout Feb 14th to September 30th.
Eastern Regional Fisheries Board waters March 17th to September
30th.
Fish species: The River Glyde contains stocks of wild brown trout and salmon throughout.
Methods: All legitimate methods are allowed however catch and release is encouraged.
Bye-law No. 824, 2007 prohibits the use of any fish hooks, other than single barbless hooks, and the use of worms as bait in angling for all species of fish in the Rivers Flurry, Glyde (that part of the river downstream of Castlebellingham Weir), Dee (that part of the river downstream of Cappogue Bridge).

Salmon: Currys Red Shrimp, Green Highlander, Colley Dog, Ally Shrimp, Silver
Stoats Tail
Angling Clubs: The Dee and Glyde Development Association control a large section of water. The Eastern Regional Fisheries Board also controls a number of stretches on this river.
Angling Tip: A black flying C is excellent for salmon on this water.

Access to Fisheries: Access does not imply a right of way and anglers should ensure that they have the necessary permission to enter or cross private lands. Where possible, anglers should walk along the riverbank or lakeshore.
Country Code: Anglers should ensure that gates are closed and that fences are not damaged or broken. Care should be taken with crops and livestock. Litter must not be discarded and no fires are allowed. Vehicles should be parked in designated areas and in such a manner, as they do not cause obstruction.
